August 27th, 2021. In this week's New Music Friday, we'll be taking a look at the new album by Halsey and more!

New Music Friday

This post is only about a week late... but I'm just going to date it to last Friday! 😅

Each week, I like to highlight a few albums or songs that were released in the past week. If you have stumbled across any new songs this past week that I should listen to, leave a comment at the bottom of this page!

First up, and my favorite of this week, is the new album "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power" by Halsey. This is the fourth studio album by singer-songwriter Halsey. The album is produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails. The record features an alternative and industrial sound. You can certainly hear the influence of the Nine Inch Nails on this album. Throughout, Halsey's strong feminist lyrics take strong shots against the patriarchy. The lead single "I Am Not a Woman, I'm a God" is both very industrial yet still a banger. The album has an accompanying film that has been released in select IMAX theaters with sold out shows. This album is a strong contender for my personal album of the year list!

A few other songs to note of the week are the following:

  • "Butter" BTS featuring Megan Thee Stallion
While I'm not a BTS fan, Megan Thee Stallion brings on a strong performance.
  • "My Heart Goes (La Di Da)" Becky Hill featuring Topic
Every Becky Hill song is a banger.
  • "Future Starts Now" Kim Petras
Kim Petras brings a fun beat to her latest single since "Malibu."
